LATEST NEWS: Weed Clearance on the Bradley Arm May '17

We're back on the Bradley Arm in Bilston, West Midlands this week - undertaking the first of five monthly Weed Clearances which will take place on this stretch of canal this summer. Due to the mild and sunny weather conditions we have experienced so far this Spring our first, May run is proving unusually heavy, with four hoppers filled with weeds already - and it's only Wednesday!

The Canal and River Trust, in conjunction with the OCS/Fountains group, oversee the monthly clearance of weeds and reeds from this vital feeder arm, between the months of May and September, in order to keep the surrounding waterways flowing freely.

Four of our 70ft Material Hoppers and our Pusher Tug ‘Enterprise’, will be involved this year, as last year, in the transportation of the collected reeds and weeds, back to the CRT workshop/basin on the arm, where they were unloaded by one of our excavators, fitted with a clamshell grab attachment, and the masses of slippery cargo then transferred to skips for disposal.
